FORT WORTH, Texas — SCH Homes founder and Southlake builder Scott Simmons was known for his community leadership, meticulous attention to detail and commitment to excellence. He drew on his extensive experience to mentor young builders.

His legacy continues with the Scott Simmons Endowed Scholarship Fund, announced Thursday at the Tarrant County College Board of Trustees meeting. Surpassing $140,000 and growing, the fund will support aspiring TCC Construction Management Technology students and help meet the region’s growing demand for skilled building professionals.

Established by SCH Homes business partners Neal Calhoun and Jonathan Hebb to honor a life well lived, the scholarship celebrates Simmons’ passion for construction and community development. Simmons died in 2019.
“Without doubt, this transformative gift will have a lasting impact for generations to come,” said TCC Chancellor Elva LeBlanc. “We deeply appreciate the generosity of SCH Homes and of those who’ve given to honor Scott’s memory. It is bittersweet that he will not be here to meet the students whose lives this scholarship will change.”
After receiving a degree in architecture, Simmons started Simmons Estate Homes and turned it into an award-winning luxury home building business. It became known as SCH Homes when Calhoun and Hebb were added as partners.
“We are incredibly grateful for Scott’s guidance, dedication and friendship, and we are proud to honor him in such a meaningful way,” Calhoun and Hebb said in a statement. “The endowment will ensure that his impact is felt for many years to come.”
TCC Foundation Executive Director Laure O’Neal said the foundation is grateful to SCH Homes and everyone who contributes to the fund.
“SCH Homes embodies a true community partner. In addition to honoring the legacy of their founder, Scott Simmons, with this endowed scholarship, they continue to engage with TCC’s construction program to provide robust experiences for students. Through their generosity, construction students’ lives will be positively impacted now and in the future.”
To contribute to the fund, contact the TCC Foundation at 817-515-5277 or foundation.info@tccd.edu. Eligible students should complete the online form by May 1 to apply for a fall 2025 scholarship.
