UT Arlington Professor Donates Ship Replicas

FORT WORTH, Texas (Sep. 28, 2012)

WHAT:
Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus hosts a ceremony honoring University of Texas at Arlington Professor Allan Saxe for his donation of two historic ships, The Santa Maria and The Hannah built by Arlington pediatrician Neil Rosen. The replicas are 2×7 feet wide and 1×10 feet long and will be permanently installed in the Trinity River Library.

SHIP DESCRIPTIONS:
The Santa Maria, (Spanish for the Holy Mary of the Immaculate Conception) was the flagship and largest of the three used by Christopher Columbus during his first voyage in 1492.

The Hannah was the first armed vessel to sail as a part of a small fleet fitted by George Washington. She saw duty in the siege of Boston in 1775 against the British Navy.
