Benefit walks and clean-up activities are among the service opportunities being coordinated during April by Trinity River Student Life. Events are open to students, faculty, staff and their families.
Trinity River Campus is adopting a section of the Trinity River to clean up and maintain twice a year. Volunteers are being recruited for the first clean-up Thursday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. The project is being done in conjunction with the Tarrant Regional Water District and Streams and Valleys, Inc. Interested volunteers should contact TR Community Outreach Coordinator Angel Garcia at ext. 1196.
AIDS Walk 2010 is Sunday, April 11, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1309 Montgomery Street. Sponsored by the AIDS Outreach Center, registration is $25 per walker. Participants may walk as an individual or start a team. They may join the TR team, Trinity Service Corps, or start their own at AIDS Walk. Walkers will receive a t-shirt. On Saturday, April 17, Cowtown Brush Up gets under way at 8 a.m. This year, the City of Fort Worth is partnering with Trinity Habitat for Humanity to paint more than 150 homes. TR is forming two teams of 15 members. Faculty, staff and students who would like to participate should contact Garcia at ext. 1196.
The final event for the month is the Susan G. Komen Tarrant County Race for the Cure Saturday, April 24, at 6 a.m. in Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. Registration fee is $30, which includes a t-shirt. Funds from the race help fund research, education, screening and treatment programs.
