FORT WORTH, Texas — Brian Spence, director of TCC’s Radiologic Technology program, received the Outstanding Teacher Award — Undergraduate at the Anatomage, Inc. conference in Santa Clara, Calif., on July 24.
Spence, a TCC faculty member since 2011, was one of four educators honored. The other recipients, from Brophy College Preparatory and Jacksonville State University and UC School of Medicine, teach at the high school and graduate levels.
The Anatomage Table is a virtual dissection system featuring digital cadavers that can be examined and manipulated 360 degrees. Nominees were evaluated on how they integrated Anatomage technology into their curriculum and demonstrated measurable impact on student success.
Each winner received $1,000, a trophy and conference registration.
The Anatomage Table came to TCC in 2013. TCC Trinity River East, where healthcare professions programs are taught, now has three tables, and the other physical TCC campuses each have one.
“It has transformed my teaching because there’s no other instructional tool like it,” Spence said. “It is a unique, hands-on device that helps students learn challenging concepts related to anatomy, patient X-ray positioning and pathology.
“Mastering these concepts is critical for students to successfully complete the program, pass the national certification exam and gain employment as entry-level radiologic technologists.”
