FORT WORTH, Texas — SkillsUSA, the nation’s top workforce development organization for students, is holding its District 4 Leadership and Skills Conference competition at Tarrant County College for the fourth consecutive year Thursday, Feb. 5, start time 5 p.m., through Saturday, Feb. 7, at noon.
Students in grades 9-12 from 15 ISDs in District 4 will showcase their vocational and leadership skills in a variety of disciplines. Faculty and staff from across TCC District 4 volunteer as judges and facilitators. District 4 comprises 22 counties in North Texas including Tarrant County.
More than 1,600 students and 236 teams will participate. Students who excel here advance to the state competition.
SkillsUSA chapters involve over 444,000 career and technical education students and teachers in middle schools, high schools and college/post-secondary institutions nationwide. The organization’s framework of personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics is integrated into classroom curriculum.
Students hone their hands-on abilities against industry standards in more than 100 occupational areas from 3D animation to welding and nearly everything in-between. At the same time, they develop career readiness in communication, leadership and teamwork that fuels both career and life success.
Since 1965, SkillsUSA has served more than 15 million members. It addresses the skills gap where more jobs are available than there are skilled professionals to fill them.
“SkillsUSA has become a powerful force in shaping career-ready leaders,” said TCC South Lifestyle and Community Learning Dean Terry Aaron. “It consistently proves its success by empowering students with the skills, confidence and professionalism they need to thrive in the workforce. I am proud to say TCC has played an important role in this effort.”
“Sponsoring SkillsUSA each year demonstrates TCC’s unwavering commitment to educational excellence and workforce preparedness,” added Assistant Dean of Nursing and Workforce Development Programs Karen Heard. “We’re proud to honor the students and educators who embody skill, integrity and leadership while highlighting TCC’s vital role as a center for innovative, high-value learning and workforce development.”
Celebrating 60 years of excellence and impact in 2025, Tarrant County College is one of the nation’s largest higher education institutions and a leading provider of higher education access in North Texas.
