Tally Up! exhibit continues at TCC Trinity River

Tally Up! — A Solo Exhibition, an exhibit by Fort Worth artist Michelle Johnson, is on display through March 7 in the East Fork Gallery at TCC Trinity River (300 Trinity Campus Circle 76102).

Johnson, who works primarily in printmaking and mixed media, is known for her vibrant, abstract compositions that explore the relationship between color and emotions.

Intrigued by the detail in old bank books, slave ship inventories and pay stubs — many lacking personal identifiers — she created the exhibit to illustrate how people have been dehumanized by reducing them to numbers throughout history and into today’s digital age.

Johnson sees the human need for communication, connection and identity as universal. She drew on her experiences as a U.S. Army combat medic as well as old military log books to further express this idea.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from Texas Christian University.

Johnson will conduct a free 90-minute printmaking workshop Feb. 5 beginning at 11 a.m. in the art classroom (TREF 1311). Participants will learn how to produce a linocut-style print, from start to finish.

Supplies will be provided, and no experience is required. Completed prints can become a part of Johnson’s exhibit, and each print will be credited to the creator.
