Huynh Kim Hieu was a commander in the Vietnamese Army, but was captured by the Communist and was a POW for 17 years. He feels great gratitude to the Americans who came and saved him and his comrades. As his wife was dying, she encouraged him to write about his experiences in camp. He did so and has published a book in Vietnamese.
His new life goal is to learn English well enough to translate this book into English so Americans can better understand the experiences of the war. He is 82 years of age, and currently in the ESOL program this semester.
