WHAT:
Tarrant County College Fire Service Training Center (FSTC) will graduate its first class led by a female class captain when Day Class #65 graduates. Janet Onim, 38, was selected captain shortly after the class began in mid-January. Onim’s responsibilities have included supervising lieutenants who direct the engine crews, coordinating class activities with FSTC staff, and serving as the liaison between the class and course coordinators.

Onim has a master’s degree in information science from The University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s degree in education from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.
Since its inception in 1989, TCC’s FSTC has graduated about 1,650 students, with a state certification examination pass rate of more than 98 percent. Departments with graduates in the current class are: Dalworthington Gardens, DFW Airport, Edgecliff Village, Everman, Grand Prairie, Irving, Keene, Krum, Sansom Park and White Settlement.
