Two Ways to Save a Life

It may not be as catchy as the song made popular by The Fray a few years ago, but we know two easy ways to save a life. And you can do either or both on a TCC campus.

Donate Blood

droplet of blood with megaphoneYou probably have about 10-12 pints of blood circulating through your body right now, and Carter BloodCare needs one of them to help stock their donation banks and save lives. Your body will quickly replenish the missing pint. Most people don’t even notice. It just takes a few minutes and a little discomfort to make a huge difference. You’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone, and you’ll also get to sip on some juice and eat a cookie afterward. Plus, you’ll get a free T-shirt! Call 1-800-DONATE-4 for more information and to reserve a spot.

Register for the National Bone Marrow Donor Program

A bone marrow transplant can be a life-saving treatment for people with leukemia, lymphoma and many other diseases. But they can’t use just any bone marrow. It has to come from a matching donor. Registering for the program is quick and painless, unless you happen to have a huge canker sore that day. They’ll just need to swab the inside of your cheek to get a DNA sample. Then you’ll be notified if you match someone who needs a transplant. The National Marrow Donor has millions of registered donors, but they still do not have matches for everyone who needs a transplant. Do your part. Call 1-800-643-2448 for more information.
