Distance Learning, Weekend Enrollment Grows

TCC fall enrollment numbers have set yet another record with an official census day count of 49,108 students, marking an 11 percent growth over last fall’s districtwide headcount. Along with growth in traditional on-campus course enrollment, TCC programs that offer alternative learning opportunities are increasingly popular among students.

More than 6,800 students are now taking advantage of Weekend College and weekend courses offered Friday through Sunday. This marks nearly a 20 percent increase compared with the enrollment for the 2010 spring semester, which was the first official semester of Weekend College. The full Weekend College program is currently offered at South, Northeast and Trinity River campuses and will continue to expand in future semesters.

Distance Learning also continues to serve an increasing number of students who prefer the flexibility in scheduling and convenience. More than 12,200 individuals are now taking DL courses, which is a 14 percent increase over last fall’s total DL headcount. To accommodate the demand for such courses, the number of instructors trained to teach online has now increased to nearly 400.

As we’ve said a lot lately, things are exciting here at TCC!
