Northwest Campus now has Leann Ellis as its vice president for Teaching and Learning. Ellis comes to TCC from Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., where she was responsible for credit and noncredit instructional programs and services across six campuses and numerous high school, clinical and community sites. She also served as Communication Division Chair for South Plains College in Levelland, where she also was a speech communication professor for 17 years.
Ellis earned a doctorate in Educational Administration in the Community College Leadership Program at The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Arts Degree in Speech Communication, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Cum Laude from Texas Tech University, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Speech and Drama from South Plains College.
She is a member of the National Council of Instructional Administrators and the Texas Speech Communication Association. A past president of the Kansas Council of Instructional Administrators, she recently served as a board member for the National Council of Instructional Administrators.
Ellis was the 2008 recipient of the South Plains College Distinguished Alumni Award and received the Girl Scouts of the Golden Plains Council Award of Distinction 2007. She was honored in 2006 by the Texas Speech Communication Association for her 25-year membership and was the association’s 1995-96 Community College Educator of the Year Award recipient. Additionally, Ellis has been recognized by Walnut Valley/KNEA as a Friend of Public Education.
