The hallowed halls of higher education at Trinity River Campus gave way this weekend to a family-centered place full of face-painting, food and fun, complete with a bounce house and Nintendo Wii. It was the first visit to the campus for some families participating in the Nash Elementary Academic Challenge, which provides an opportunity for Nash Elementary students to attend TCC tuition free after high school graduation. Close to 50 children participated in the age-appropriate activities while their parents learned about the program.
“Fort Worth ISD is very committed to this program,” said TR President Tahita Fulkerson. “They provided ear phones and translation so those in the room who couldn’t understand a presentation in English were having simultaneous translations.”
Special thanks from Public Relations and Marketing to Emily Billings in the library, Kim Thomas of business services and Dayton Greenway in the bookstore for helping with the first Facebook scavenger hunt. Putting their brains to work to figure out the clues were 11-year-old Elijah Palacious, George Paddock and Georgette Wilson, who won a TCC t-shirt, TCC portfolio and bicycle, respectively..
Winners of the six free TCC classes were Yaresie Castillo, Haylie Cole, Charisma Cruz, Kiarra Watkins, Cotton Wright and Lauren Perry. TCC bookstore gift cards winners were Kirk Whitney, Stephanie Alder, Martin Perez, Larry Flex and Jesus Arroyo. Gift basket winners were
