Thousands expected at TCC Back to School Roundup

FORT WORTH, TX — In its continued commitment to community, Tarrant County College will provide school supplies, health services and more at the free Tarrant County Back to School Roundup, 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at TCC South, 5301 Campus Drive in Fort Worth

Thousands of underserved pre-K through grade 12 students and their families are expected to attend.

Now in its 19th year, the Roundup brings together nonprofits, corporate sponsors, and local government and education partners to ensure the students start the school year strong. A range of health and community resources will be offered, including immunizations (Tarrant County Public Health), vision screenings and health checks (Walmart), even free haircuts (Ogle School).

An opening welcome will feature remarks from Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker, County Commissioner Roderick Miles, Jr., Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Karen Molinar and representatives of TCC South, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages and other benefactors.

The Sid W. Richardson Foundation, a longtime advocate for educational access and equity, returns as a principal sponsor. Coca-Cola Southwest will donate 200 laptops to students in grades 9-12 and contribute over $70,000 worth of beverages and resources.

Admission is free for families who register in advance. Beginning at noon, families who did not preregister are welcome to walk up and participate. Any remaining school supplies will be distributed on a first come, first served basis to pre-K through 12th-grade students with a valid photo ID.

“This event is about more than just school supplies. It’s about reminding families that they’re seen, supported and not alone,” said Joshua Willis, president of the Tarrant County Back to School Roundup Board. “For 19 years we’ve come together as a community to lift each other up and make sure every student starts the school year with confidence and care.”
