FORT WORTH, Texas — It started as a promise: to make a college education available to anyone willing to pursue it. For 50 years, Tarrant County College Northwest has helped fulfill that promise, and today Tarrant County Commissioners Court made sure that fact didn’t go unnoticed.
“TCC has helped so many students, so many young people bridge that gap in their lives between turning 18 and graduating high school, or even turning 16 and taking college classes while still in high school,” Precinct 4 Commissioner Manny Ramirez said in presenting the anniversary proclamation.
“TCC has done whatever it takes to help students create their path and have opportunities. TCC is a phenomenal institution.”
Chancellor Elva LeBlanc accepted the proclamation for TCC, noting that Northwest’s golden anniversary demonstrates what’s possible when public education, community investment and regional partnership come together around a shared purpose.
“For 50 years, Northwest has opened doors for students who only dreamed of earning a college degree,” Dr. LeBlanc said. “It has prepared a skilled workforce that undergirds our regional economy, and it has demonstrated — generation after generation that learning unlocks potential and enriches quality of life.”
TCC Northwest and the community it serves have flourished side by side. What began in 1976 on the rolling prairie overlooking Marine Creek Lake has become a dynamic learning community eager to expand opportunity, develop talent and respond to a changing region.
The proclamation hailed TCC Northwest as “a cornerstone of higher education, economic development and community enrichment” and highlighted its contributions to workforce development through the Erma C. Johnson Hadley Northwest Center of Excellence for Aviation, Transportation and Logistics, the Public Safety Training Center and a broad range of academic and technical offerings.
The Commissioners Court also recognized generations of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners whose contributions have helped shape the campus and extend its impact.
“A 50th anniversary gives us an opportunity not only to reflect on where we have been, but also to recognize the people who brought us here,” TCC Northwest President Zarina Blankenbaker said. “As we celebrate 50 years, we are proud of our history, excited for our future and committed to ensuring that TCC Northwest continues to create opportunity and serve this community with energy and innovation.”
