TCC NE and NW partner on ‘It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play’

FORT WORTH, Texas — An American holiday classic is reimagined as a captivating 1940s radio broadcast in the Tarrant County College Northeast and Northwest coproduction of It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, running Nov. 18–22 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. at the TCC Northeast Drama Playhouse.

It’s Christmas Eve 1946, and Manhattan radio station WBFR brings the beloved film to life on the air. But instead of a traditional stage play, audiences watch actors perform as if they’re in a vintage radio station, complete with microphones, “On Air” signs and quirky handmade sound effects.

Written by prolific author/designer/playwright Joe Landry, the play also features nostalgic songs and vintage commercials.

“You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who hasn’t seen and enjoyed the delightful holiday classic film It’s a Wonderful Life,” said J. Brent Alford, the play’s director and Director of Theatre at TCC Northwest. “Imagine you and your entire family are gathered around the radio to hear this wonderful story brought to life in your imagination through the marvel of radio.” Alford considers this a chance to experience the morality tale as never seen or heard before.

The production, a combined effort of TCC Northeast and Northwest, has cast members from both campuses — Brandan Riley as George Bailey/Young George; Liana Flores as Mary Hatch/Young Mary; Myah Mortensen as Woman #1; Kaitlin Bridges as Woman #2; John Patterson as Man #1; Ben Crowson as Man #2; Adam Sellors as the Onstage Stage Manager/Foley Artist; and Elizabeth Stillwell as the Onstage Accompanist.
