TCC earns second consecutive Gold Award from Texas Veterans Commission

FORT WORTH, Texas — Tarrant County College has again been recognized for its support of student veterans and military-connected students, earning the Gold Award from the Texas Veterans Commission for the second consecutive year.

The Legislature established the 2025 Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Awards to spotlight colleges and universities that provide exemplary education and support to veterans and their families. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards have been presented to institutions across the state.

Veterans Resource Centers at all six TCC campuses stand ready to help with everything from VA educational benefits to degree planning to counseling.

“This honor is a powerful testament to TCC’s enduring respect and gratitude for those who serve our nation,” said Chancellor Elva LeBlanc. “As TCC celebrates six decades of excellence and impact, we are more committed than ever to empower all who seek a better future. Veterans and military-connected students, know that you have a permanent place in that mission.”

Almost 4,000 veterans and military-connected students are enrolled at TCC this fall, and another 130 teach or are on staff.

Gov. Greg Abbott praised Texas post-secondary institutions in supporting veterans.

“Colleges and universities across Texas offer world-class resources and educational support to the brave men and women who served in our nation’s military,” he said. “I thank these institutions for their ongoing efforts to provide wide-ranging services for student veterans and veterans’ children as they pursue opportunities in higher education.”

The Texas Veterans Commission evaluated institutions based on a range of criteria, including:

  • Mental health and disability services
  • Academic support programs
  • Centralized resources for assistance and peer support
  • Career services and transfer pathways to four-year universities

All Texas public colleges and universities were invited to apply for recognition.

Celebrating 60 years of excellence and impact in 2025, Tarrant County College is one of the nation’s largest higher education institutions and offers the second-lowest tuition among Texas’ top 10 community colleges. With six campuses across Tarrant County, TCC provides accessible, high-quality learning opportunities for students of all ages and backgrounds.
