‘25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’ opens at TCC Northeast

FORT WORTH, Texas — 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a musical that promises to entertain with its humor, heart and profound messages about life’s journey, runs at 7 p.m. Nov. 13-16, with a 2 p.m. matinee Nov. 16, in the Tarrant County College Northeast Drama Playhouse, 828 W. Harwood Road 76054.

Six misfit middle schoolers compete, but only one can win. Each of them brings their own hopes, struggles and passions.

“Everything in our world today seems quite fraught or insurmountable – as it does for the young spellers in the bee,” said director Lizz Bashore. “Our story is an exploration of huge feelings that require bursts of discovery through song and finally a discovery of what is truly important in this life. In our show, it is each other.”

A heartwarming exploration of beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking chaos, the musical invites audiences to embrace every moment with a keen perspective, recognizing that each experience, no matter how challenging, contributes to the beauty of life.

“The team chose this show because it perfectly reflects the essence of life’s unpredictable yet beautiful journey, even when it is bizarre,” said Bashore. “We wanted to bring a story to the stage that not only entertains but also resonates deeply with our audience.”

The cast includes Shane McCombs, Lynn Sill, Daniel Keough, Darolyn Nieves, Luke Englehardt, Tom Pond, Rose Bailey, Brooks Gentry and Olivia Cleaver. Drama / Theater – Tarrant County College Purchase Tickets: Season Productions for Northeast Campus – Tarrant County College
