TCC Northwest to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Sarah Berlanga, Community Education Specialist at The Women’s Center of Tarrant County, will be the featured speaker on Wednesday, Oct. 19, as TCC Northwest observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Women’s Center representatives will also present information about healthy relationships and how to recognize signs of domestic violence. The program, sponsored by TCC’s DASHH (Drugs, Alcohol, Sex, Harassment, Hazing) Prevention Education Squad will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Walsh Library on the third floor of the WTLO building.
Berlanga, a graduate of UT-Arlington, has been with the Women’s Center since 2015. In her role, she provides survivor-centered, sexual violence trainings to professionals throughout Tarrant County and works to ensure that professionals from various disciplines are equipped with the tools to provide services in an intersectional, trauma-informed way. Her presentation will be streamed live to the other TCC campuses.
The next day, Oct. 20, is “Go Purple TCC Day,” a national day of action each October that seeks to raise awareness about domestic violence and a way to show a commitment to promoting healthy relationships. The campus community is encouraged to wear purple and to decorate their workspace in purple to show support for domestic violence awareness.
