Tarrant County College Southeast students can now use Via Rideshare, the City of Arlington’s on-demand public transit service, to reach all neighborhoods, shopping centers, offices, restaurants, medical facilities and other key destinations in Arlington. The expanded access is due to the City of Arlington’s recent citywide expansion of its Via Rideshare service area.
Arlington and Via, the leaders in TransitTech, launched the Via Rideshare in 2017, becoming one of the first cities in the country to use on-demand technology as its primary public transportation solution to expand access to affordable, on-demand transportation accessible to residents, employees and visitors.
Located in southeast Arlington near 360 South, TCC Southeast was added to the service area in February 2020. During the fourth quarter of 2020 (September-December), the average monthly ridership for TCC students was 63 boardings. Numbers are expected to increase when students return to campus.
All TCC students have to do is use a special promotion code to access TCC’s Via Quick Ride Program. Students must be enrolled in at least three credit hours or 48 continuing education contact hours at TCC Southeast.
Studies show that lack of transportation can be a significant barrier for current students and people considering to enroll at TCC. By providing reliable transportation to its students, TCC remains committed to being a student-ready college.
Via’s platform routes passengers in real time to “virtual bus stops” within just a couple of blocks for pickup and drop off, enabling multiple passengers headed in the same direction to efficiently share a single vehicle.
Riders can book a shared ride six days a week using a smartphone application or by calling 817-784-7382. The service operates between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday through Friday
