TCC offers lifeguard classes

May 2023 Note: Class dates in the below article are from 2019. For future class dates, visit the American Red Cross website.

With summer around the corner and aquatic programs offered at Tarrant County College throughout the year, certified lifeguards are in demand. TCC is offering classes to allow students to earn their lifeguard and critical care certifications in one weekend.

Classes started this spring at TCC Northwest (4801 Marine Creek Pkwy., Fort Worth). Through blended online and in-water coursework, students earn their lifeguard, first aid and CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator) certifications. Instructors are certified by the American Red Cross.

TCC Northwest launched the courses in response to community need and the demand for a full staff of lifeguards to cover year-round kinesiology and Community Education & Engagement classes. The average hourly wage for lifeguards is $11.33, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Upcoming TCC Northwest course dates are May 25 and 26 as well as June 8 and 9. Classes are open to those 15 and older with strong swimming skills. The cost is $250. For more information and to register, visit the WHPE building or contact Sarah Matlock at 817-515-7641 or sarah.matlock@tccd.edu.

Lifeguard training is also offered at TCC Northeast (828 W. Harwood Rd., Hurst). For information, contact Kevin Harper at 817-515-6621 or kevin.harper@tccd.edu.
