TCC to Host U.S. Citizenship Workshop for Legal Permanent Residents

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2014) — Tarrant County College will host a Mega Citizenship Workshop Saturday, April 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the TCC Northwest Campus, Student Center, WSTU, 4801 Marine Creek Parkway.
 
In keeping with TCC’s commitment to increase opportunities for collaboration and service to the community, the free service will inform and assist legal permanent residents living in the United States in their efforts to become naturalized U.S. citizens. Immigration attorneys and Board of Immigration Appeals representatives will be on site to guide applicants in completing the U.S. Citizenship Application Form N-400.
 
Requirements to apply for citizenship include being more than 18 years of age, a U.S. resident of five years or more (three years, if married to a U.S. citizen) and a knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government. The ability to read, speak and write English is also required. There are exceptions based on age and length of residence in the U.S. Men between the ages of 18 and 26 will be required to register for Selective Service. Applicants for immigration should bring proper ID and a $680 money order ($595, if 75 years old or older) for the application fee.
 
The Workshop is also in need of volunteers to help facilitate this major event. Volunteer duties include helping workshop participants fill out required forms and performing other administrative services. Experience and knowledge with immigration law and procedures are preferred, but not required. Volunteers are required to attend an orientation and training session Thursday, April 17, from 6-7 p.m. at the TCC Northwest Campus in the Student Center, WSTU 1303. All volunteers must be able and willing to perform their duties from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 19.
