TCC Hosts Job and Resource Fair for Persons with Disabilities

FORT WORTH, Texas (March 28, 2014) Tarrant County College will host its annual Job and Resource Fair for Persons with Disabilities Wednesday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Trinity River Campus, 300 Trinity Campus Circle, in downtown Fort Worth.
 
More than 40 employers and resource agencies plan to participate in the Job and Resource Fair, held in collaboration with TCC’s Office of Continuing Education Services and Disability Support Service along with the City of Fort Worth Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities, which includes representatives from the Department of Assistive Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Mental Health and Mental Retardation (MHMR) and the Fort Worth Transportation Association (The T).
 
The event will feature sessions to assist applicants with job searches. Topics include “Disclosing Your Disability,” “Dressing for Success,” “Interviewing Techniques” and “Supplemental Security Income.” There also will be a public open forum led by the Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities.
 
Special accommodations will be provided. The fair is free and open to adults 17 years and older. Participants are encouraged to bring resumes and to dress professionally. Employment is not guaranteed.
 
Participating employers include Albertson’s, American Airlines, city of Fort Worth, Cook Children’s Hospital, Easter Seals, Expanco, JPS Network, Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth, Home Depot and Hospice Healthcare Network.
 
Others include The T, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Creative Memories, MHMR, Six Flags Over Texas, Tarrant County College, Tom Thumb, Kroger, H&R Block, Manpower and Walgreens.
 
Resource agencies scheduled to attend include Ability Connection Texas, Amerigroup, Deaf Action Center FW, DARS, Deaf Action Center, Gentle Touch Services, MHMRTC-Supported Employment Services, Maximus, National Federation of the Blind, Rosa’s Home Health, Tarrant County Public Health and United Way of Tarrant County 211.
