As memories of the holiday season become increasingly faint, another annual event is fast approaching. ‘Tis now the season to settle accounts. It’s time to figure out whether you’re going to give or receive when that fateful appointment comes in April. Yes, for those who earned wages in the past year, it’s time to tally your numbers.
Those who qualify and need assistance with what can be a daunting undertaking can get a helping hand at several TCC campuses. Tax assistance at South and Southeast campuses is the result of partnerships with the United Way of Tarrant County, the IRS and Catholic Charities to provide tax assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Households with less than $50,000 in adjusted gross income generally are eligible for the free tax preparation service. Forms will be filed electronically.
VITA services are available at South Campus in the Family Empowerment Center, SNUR 1203 and on Southeast Campus in EMBC, located east of the main building. Hours for both locations are Tuesday and Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m.; Friday, 3 to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday hours on South Campus are 2 to 6 p.m. and on Southeast Campus are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For more information or to make appointments on South Campus call the Family Empowerment Center at 817-515-4866 and on Southeast Campus, call 211, option 1.
Assistance with taxes is also available at Northwest Campus. Forms and envelopes from a local income tax service may be picked up from the Student Activities Office in the Student Center, WSTU 2811. The company will file the forms and return them to participants. The service is provided free for those filing the 1040EZ form, which will be filed electronically. More information is available by calling Student Activities at 817-515-7795.
