Tarrant County College Rewarded for Energy Efficiency Project

FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 4, 2011)

Tarrant County College (TCC) was awarded a $10,400 incentive check from Oncor’s Educational Facilities Program (EFP) for installing a high-efficiency air conditioning system at its brand new Trinity River East Campus.

The EFP helps schools and universities save energy and money by providing no-cost facility improvement recommendations and financial incentives based on the total amount of energy the equipment will help save. The high-efficiency air conditioning system will save approximately 44,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually, equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions of more than 3,000 gallons of gasoline, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.

“The Educational Facilities Program from Oncor was instrumental in helping us include this system at our new campus,” said Director of Physical Plant Operations Gary Preather. “While we’re enjoying the energy savings, our students and faculty are starting the new school year off right with a comfortable learning environment.”

In addition to financial incentives, the EFP provided no-cost technical assistance to ensure TCC selected the appropriate high-efficiency equipment. The EFP also worked with the college to involve personnel from all departments in the decision-making process so everyone understood the financial benefits of investing in the project. “Involving everyone guarantees the right people understand the long-term advantages of using the equipment and justifies the investment,” said Preather.

“Schools are an integral part of the communities Oncor serves. Oncor is excited about this unique program that helps schools facing budget challenges to invest in energy efficiency equipment,” said Oncor Area Manager Suzan Greene. “We look forward to continuing to work with colleges like Tarrant County College to make these much-needed projects happen.”
