Trustees Attend Student Success Governance Institute

FORT WORTH, Texas (Aug. 4, 2011)

Five members of the Tarrant County College Board of Trustees and Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley were among leaders of 18 Texas community and technical colleges who attended the recent Governance Institute for Student Success-Texas.

Participants in the July 31-Aug. 2 institute held at the Marriott-Champions Circle assessed data on the effectiveness of their colleges’ governing boards and on their students’ outcomes on key educational benchmarks.  In addition to Chancellor Hadley, TCC representatives were board President Kristin Vandergriff and board members O.K. Carter, Louise Appleman, Gwendolyn Morrison and Bill Greenhill.

“Programs like this enable board members to come together and create a climate for courageous work to improve student success outcomes,” said Byron McClenney, project director of Achieving the Dream at The University of Texas at Austin.  “The message that boards are planning to track or monitor student success is a powerful motivating factor on campus.”
