FORT WORTH, Texas (May 9, 2011)
Erica Cottingham, a dual credit student at Tarrant County College Northeast and Southlake Carroll Senior High School, has been named one of 12 finalists in Pearson’s Insider contest. Cottingham and NE Economics Instructor Harold Ledbetter, who nominated her, will attend the National Economics Insider Symposium (NEIS) June 10-11 in Washington, D.C.
The Insider contest, which was open to college students enrolled in an economics course this spring semester, sought solutions for improving the nation’s economy. Finalists were chosen based on the strength, feasibility and creativity of their ideas, and overall clarity of their proposed solution.
Cottingham’s entry about health-care reform earned her the chance to be named Future Economics Insider. She will also be able to exchange ideas with some of Pearson’s renowned economics authors during the event.
“It’s very exciting to have the chance to learn from other students from across the nation and to be able to share my ideas about an important economic issue like national health care,” said Cottingham, a high school junior. “Economics, as taught by Mr. Ledbetter, seems so relevant to daily experience dealing with so many important issues. It has certainly captured my interest in the subject.”
