Northwest Students to Talk with U.S. Poet Laureate

Five Northwest Campus students have been selected to be part of an April 1 videoconference with U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan who will discuss the process of writing poetry. The event is part of Community College Poetry Day and will be broadcast from the Library of Congress, which is collaborating with the Community College Humanities Association (CCHA) on the project.  TCC is one of only four community colleges in the nation participating.  It was selected by the Library of Congress and CCHA because of its interest in the poetry project and in the humanities on the Northwest Campus.  The videoconference will be streamed live and can be viewed at www.loc.gov/poetry/mindsjoy/. Northwest participating students are Iris Alindo, Kelly Cross, Amy Furr, Anthony Galino and Casandara Sanchez. NW Dean of Humanities Mike Matthews and English faculty members LeeAnn Olivier and Dr. Adrian Cook will also participate. Northwest has scheduled several poetry events in April, including a demonstration of how to write love poetry, poetry readings by faculty, a poetry fair and a demonstration of slam poetry. For more information, see the TCC website calendar.
