Coordinator of the Respiratory Care Program on the Northeast Campus John Hiser has returned from Washington D.C. where he was not only part of a delegation from the American Association for Respiratory Care invited to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, but also represented Texas respiratory therapists as he visited the offices of Senator John Cornyn, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Congressman Kenny Marchant. The association sponsors a Political Action Contact Team (PACT) Day in Washington, and this year its purpose was to persuade legislators to support legislation that would ultimately improve patient care. The organization and others have successfully worked to get Pulmonary Rehab programs approved through CMS (Medicare) and in getting the Department of Transportation to allow portable oxygen concentrators on board domestic flights.
