Campus Events Honor Veterans

In honor of veterans within the TCC community, Tarrant County and throughout the nation, four TCC campuses will host special Veterans Day events today, Nov. 11.

At Northeast Campus, a free luncheon for veterans, highlighted by keynote speaker Fort Worth City Councilman Jim Lane, will begin at 11 a.m. in Student Center, 1615A. An evening concert at 7:30 p.m. is free and open to the public and will include compositions by TCC music faculty.

Northwest Campus will also host two events, beginning with a free lunch for NW student veterans at noon. Then, at 6:30 tonight, Cornerstone Honors students will lead an official dedication of Phases IV and V of the Afghanistan/Iraq War Memorial, featuring keynote speaker Josh Daugherty, a TCC student, former U.S. Marine combat engineer and author.

The South Campus’ Veterans Day program begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Center with the prelude and Posting of the Colors followed by a selection of musical patriotic compositions and a recognition of veterans.

Southeast Campus will also host a mid-day observance starting at 11 a.m. in the Main Commons area. Keynote speaker will be U.S. Army Sgt. and paratrooper John Johnson. Also in honor of veterans, 100 U.S. flags are displayed on the campus.

Be sure to stop by any of the observances if you can, and take an extra moment to show appreciation for those veterans you see around campus today. Whether it’s a family member, close friend, neighbor or co-worker, you’re bound to know a veteran who deserves a special thanks today.
