Distance Learning Draws Record Enrollment

Along with all five campuses, TCC’s virtual offerings also reached record enrollment numbers this fall. Distance Learning, comprised of online and instructional TV courses, came in at a total Districtwide headcount of 10,233 students, marking nearly a 14% increase over last year. And marking an even bigger increase, overall DL enrollment passed the 18,000 mark since many students take more than one course.

“The students’ desire for convenience and flexibility, especially in today’s economy, has also led to increased flexibility among faculty, who receive specialized training to teach both in the classroom and online,” said Director Kevin Eason.

Thanks to the nearly 300 faculty members now trained to teach online courses, more than 600 course sections provide students with a wide range of options, from accounting to music appreciation. But students better be fast as many fill up from the very first day of registration.
