TCC launches microcredential program to enhance workforce readiness

FORT WORTH, Texas — Tarrant County College has begun a transformative microcredential program to expand educational opportunities that align with North Texas’ growing industry demands.

“TCC is committed to providing innovative educational pathways that meet the evolving needs of our students and local industries,” said project sponsor and TCC Connect President Carlos Morales. “Microcredentials represent a significant step toward ensuring our graduates are workforce ready and equipped with the skills employers seek.”

Microcredentials — short-term, competency-based certifications — provide students and working professionals with targeted skills and verified achievements that enhance employability and career advancement. The credentials complement traditional degree programs and offer a flexible, accessible way to gain specialized knowledge in high-demand fields.

“This initiative provides students with valuable skills and strengthens TCC’s role as a leader in workforce development,” said project lead Allyson Wattley, district director of faculty affairs. “By collaborating with industry partners, we ensure that our microcredentials align with the real world demands of the job market.”

Microcredentials focus on areas such as film, healthcare, information technology, business and advanced manufacturing, with plans to expand disciplines based on community and employer needs. They are stackable, meaning they can serve as building blocks toward certificates and degrees, meaning further career mobility.

TCC’s addition of microcredentials also supports House Bill 8, which ties state community college funding to student outcomes and underpins the link between higher education and economic prosperity.

Details on specific microcredential offerings and enrollment opportunities are forthcoming.
