TCC South’s Celebration of Excellence, which began in the early 2000s, had to go virtual this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Celebration of Excellence features several awards recognizing the excellence and achievement of students, faculty, staff and community partners at TCC South.
Nominations were reviewed by the Celebration of Excellence committee, consisting of a diverse group of TCC faculty, staff and students. Once the campus closed, committee members had to rethink the entire event, which presented some challenges.
“Changing the Celebration of Excellence Awards Program to a digital format due to COVID-19 was definitely a learning experience for the planning team,” said Keisha Shelton, coordinator of student services at TCC South and chair of the planning committee. “We found ourselves learning new technologies and adapted our skills, discovered more available resources such as video support, all while ensuring that student, staff and faculty members are recognized with the same level of excellence as our live event.”
