WHAT:
Tarrant County College will host a Human Trafficking Education Session. The free information session will be conducted by Officer Kim Fretwell of the Arlington Police Department and is open to TCC students, faculty, staff and members of the community.
According to a 2016 study by The University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work, Institute of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, human trafficking constitutes a prevalent and significant social crisis in Texas:
- 79,000 minors and youth are victims of sex trafficking in Texas
- 234,000 workers are victims of labor trafficking
- 313,000 estimated victims of human trafficking currently in Texas
- Traffickers exploit approximately $600 million from victims of labor trafficking in Texas
- Minor and youth sex trafficking cost the state of Texas approximately $6.6 billion
Human Trafficking involves the exploitation of people through force, coercion, threat, fraud or deception and may include acts generally defined as human rights abuses. Trafficking takes many horrific forms including prostitution, forced labor and services and more.
This public awareness session is offered as part of Tarrant County College’s commitment to serving the Tarrant County community.
