Barefoot in the Park opens at TCC Northeast

FORT WORTH, Texas — When opposites attract, problems are inevitable. Thus, the couple in Neil Simon’s romantic comedy Barefoot in the Park. Performances at Tarrant County College Northeast Playhouse are Oct. 8-11 at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. Oct. 11 matinee.

The original Broadway production, which premiered in 1963, quickly became a hit and ran for more than 1,500 shows, making it one of the longest-running non-musicals on Broadway.

Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. He’s a straight-arrow lawyer, and she’s a free spirit always pursuing the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find — too expensive with bad plumbing and needing a paint job.

Corie believes Paul just doesn’t understand her. He’s too staid, too boring. She just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. You know, like running barefoot in the park.

Director Jake Blakeman: “Barefoot in the Park reminds us that while people may approach life differently, we can always find common ground through laughter. Neil Simon’s comedy captures the joy and humor hidden in life’s challenges, showing us that acceptance of each other’s quirks can be a source of healing and connection. This play is a celebration of love, resilience and the restorative power of a good laugh.”
