FORT WORTH, Texas — Adults in the audience can get in touch with their inner child when Puss in Boots by Moses Goldberg runs March 6-8 at Tarrant County College’s Theatre Northwest. Although children are the target, there’s plenty for adults to see as well.
The TCC drama troupe has experience with young viewers. It has offered children’s shows for the past decade.
“This gives elementary schools a chance to let students watch live theatre,” director Derek Salazar says. “The magic of theatre through a kid’s eyes is something that connects with the performers and presents a unique experience for everyone involved.”
Fast-paced and witty, the classic fairy tale chronicles a clever cat inherited by Simple, the son of a miller. Simple and the cat become friends. Thankful for the boots that Simple gives her, Puss wants to locate for the young man a place to live.
Salazar says the cat goes out of her way to help Simple gain a castle and better his life. With audience assistance, Puss finds Simple a well-suited princess and eliminates an evil ogre (by turning him into a mouse and eating him!).
Salazar chose Puss in Boots to direct because he loves the story. “The play serves as a reminder of what it means to help others,” he said. “This is a lesson that children and adults need to learn and be reminded of.”
The cast features Alma Dominguez (Puss/Ms. Dupres), Phoebe Haygood (Simple/Fitzgerald), Scotty Ebron (King/Ogre/Mr. Jones), Cianna Wesson (Clarissa/Wisteria) and Ezra Steward (understudy for Clarissa/Wisteria).
