TCC, TXST launch guaranteed transfer program

FORT WORTH, Texas — Tarrant County College and Texas State University today signed an agreement to streamline the transfer of TCC students into Texas State’s two campuses. TCC students who have earned an associate degree and have a 2.25 or higher GPA will be guaranteed admission to Texas State.

With four-year college costs on the rise, more students are starting at community colleges. By first earning an associate degree at TCC, students save around $10,000 each year before heading to Texas State. Plus those transferring to on-campus programs at Texas State’s San Marcos or Round Rock locations can qualify for an assured transfer scholarship.

“We know many Texans face an affordability crisis, and we’re proud to provide them access to earn an affordable first-class higher education,” TCC Chancellor Elva LeBlanc said. “We’re strengthening workforce development and uplifting our region and state by equipping students with the education to transfer to four-year institutions or immediately begin high-demand, high-wage careers.

“Our collaboration with Texas State reflects a determination that our transfer students have a solid bridge to another post-secondary institution where they can continue their education and earn a bachelor’s degree.”

Eligible TCC students may enroll in Texas State this spring and transfer as soon as this summer. Texas State has become a popular destination — in 2023-24 nearly 500 former TCC students were enrolled at San Marcos.

Texas State President Kelly Damphousse: “As a proud graduate of a community college, I believe that student success is a collective responsibility of all areas of higher education. That’s why TXST is honored to partner with Tarrant County College to create clear, guaranteed pathways for students to achieve their academic goals close to home. This marks our fourth community college articulation agreement in the past year, with at least four more yet to come. Our goal is to build bridges for students, to remove barriers, and to ensure no credits are left behind as they earn their four-year degree.

“These partnerships go beyond signatures on a piece of paper. They are a testament to our shared mission to help our state build a Talent Strong Texas.”

TCC and TXST worked together to develop clear transfer guidelines to make every credit count. Students will automatically be admitted to TXST for the semester indicated on their declaration form, giving them access to academic advising and registration.
