FORT WORTH, Texas (Aug. 7, 2012)
Amidst soaring temperatures, Tarrant County College South Campus is offering a way to cool off for those who may have limited access to public pools.
Beginning Friday, Aug. 10, and subsequent Fridays through Aug. 24, swimming instruction will be available in the mornings and recreational swim in the afternoons at the South Campus, 5301 Campus Drive. The pool is in the Health and Physical Education Building (SHPE).
“This is prompted in part by the limited access to swimming pools in some communities,” said South Campus President Peter Jordan. “In addition, this program will allow us to combat the increasing number of accidental drowning deaths nationwide among youths who don’t know how to swim.”
Registration is at the pool prior to the class. Recreational swim for youths is $3 per session and for adults is $5. Swimming instruction fees for the general public is $36 and $26 for anyone currently enrolled in a TCC fitness class. A reduced cost of $16 is available to anyone receiving public assistance. Documentation showing the eligible programs must be shown at the time of registration.
