Staff from area school districts will spend the next three days at Tarrant County College Corporate Training Center AllianceTexas getting a firsthand look at job opportunities in logistics, one of the top job growth markets. Participants will not only hear about opportunities from leaders in local logistics companies, but they will participate in hands-on activities they can use in their classes to introduce their students to careers in logistics. Additionally, they will also tour companies in various aspect of logistics including Cinram, a cell phone logistics company, BNSF Railway Intermodal Yard and FedEx.
Academy speakers will include Tom Harris, senior vice president of Operations for Hillwood; David Setzer, executive director of the North Central Texas Worforce Board; Terry Pohlen of the University of North Texas; and Clint Grant of TCC.
Panels of experts will also provide specifics about the growing field. Panelists Wednesday and Thursday include Renae Reed, training manager for Genco ATC Logistics; Maru Iabichela, hub operations manager for BNSF; Melanie Rudolph, project manager for Schenker Logistics Inc.; and Debbie Averett, human relations supervisor for Southstar LLC (Kroger).
Friday’s panelists include Jim Boland, general manager, and Heather Hagensess, human relations manager, for Wal Mart/Sam’s; Jesse DeLeon, human relations manager of JTEKT Automotive Texas; and Rodney Turrabiates, director of human relations of Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc.
