Their first time out, three students from a couple of TCC’s math and science programs came home with trophies after competing in the statewide Texas Alliance Minorities Engineering Contest at the University of Houston.
Homeschooler Ethan Mata, 18, took second place in physics and third place in algebra. Ethan is a participant in the Southeast Campus’ Home School Program.
Dainyl Cuba and Matthew Vasquez placed third and fifth in the math competition. Dainyl is a seventh-grade student at Charles Baxter Junior High in Everman and Matthew is a sixth-grader at Handley Middle School. Both participated in a special TCC “College for Kids” Program in summer 2010.
The TAME competition encourages female and minority students to enroll in science, technology, engineering and math.
