An Open House for Trinity River Campus’ new Ophthalmic Assistant Program will be Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 6-7 p.m. in the Power Room on the fourth floor. The Continuing Education Services program is held in partnership with local ophthalmology and optician offices.
Training will prepare Certified Ophthalmic Assistants to support ophthalmologists by collecting data and transmitting and executing the ophthalmologist’s orders. Duties and tasks include obtaining medical history, measuring the eye, testing ocular functions, and caring for, maintaining and sterilizing instruments.
Immunization records and a background check are required at the time of application. Prerequisite coursework includes CPR for Health Care Professionals and a National Safety Council First Aid Course. Registration continues through the first class day, Jan. 18, 2011.
