Barbara Coan recently was named vice president for Teaching and Learning for Southeast Campus. Formerly Coan was the first on-site Dean of Academic Affairs at Collin College’s Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco where she was responsible for 16 departments including math, science, humanities, social sciences, English, communications and foreign languages.
While at Collin County, Coan implemented the Service to Scholars Program offering courses for veterans, an Associate Faculty Conference, Mentoring Program and a Great Teachers Retreat.
Coan earned a doctorate in Higher Education from the University of North Texas, and a Master of Education Degree in Physical Education and Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and Speech from Tarleton State University. Additionally, she was a participant in the American Association of Community College Future Leaders Institute.
A regular presenter at state and national conferences, Coan often leads workshops promoting strategies to improve teaching effectiveness. Her memberships include the Texas Community College Instructional Administrators, Texas Community College Teachers Association, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, American Association of Community Colleges and North Texas Consortium of Community Colleges.
