A new award at the Student Art Competition last week honors former Coordinator of Graphic Communication Margaret Bucklew. During Bucklew’s 25-year tenure at Northeast Campus, the graphic communication program developed from using hand techniques to the current digital format. Her experience prior to TCC included owning her own business and managing art departments for graphic design businesses. Additionally, she worked as a typesetter during an era when their work was specialized requiring them to write a variety of programming codes and design layout, often without being able to see the project as they were laying it out.
Graphic design student Ruben Ruiz won first and second place in the new Margaret Bucklew Advertising Design Award. “Pottery House Panorama” by Kerry Butcher was named “Best of Show” for the competition. As many as 4,000 people viewed student art at the closing reception held at the end of a month-long exhibit displaying about 100 pieces.
