Opportunities to get involved with the Faculty Associations on three campuses are still possible today and tomorrow. Final fall semester meetings will be today on Northwest Campus at 12:30 p.m. in the Michael Saenz Conference Center and at 1 p.m. Friday on Southeast Campus in the North Ballroom and on the Trinity River Campus in the Power Room.
“Meet your Administrator” was the topic of one association meeting at Northeast Campus.
South Campus, which has concluded its meetings for the semester, launched its semester by hearing from TCC alumnae and Texas Wesleyan College graduate State. Rep Mark Veasey. Veasey, who was introduced by longtime colleague History Instructor Geoffrey Mitchell, said he was a strong supporter of community colleges. He said he not only supports their transfer credit classes but their role in adult education. Other topics he discussed included proposed changes to the 10 percent rule, TAKS testing, academically unacceptable high schools, concealed weapons on college campuses and pre-kindergarten.
Associate Government Professor Wanda Hill primarily was interested in Veasey’s comments about guns on campus and possible internships in his office and the legislative internship initiative. She said internships interest her because “this will be an opportunity for our students to get an inside view of the workings of our state government.” As a result of Veasey’s comments, Computer Science Instructor Gracie Williams said she plans to take up his recommendation to contact her local representatives to voice her position on various important issues. Williams said she is participating in association meetings “to be a knowledgeable and proactive faculty member.”
